Our 2009 Benefit Dinner speaker is legendary coach Tom Osborne.
Coach Osborne's name is securely inscribed in the record books as one of the most successful college football coaches of all time. During his 25-year tenure as the Nebraska Cornhuskers' head football coach, Osborne mounted at 255-49-3 record with three perfect-season national championships in 1993, 1994 and 1997.
For his efforts, Osborne has been inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame (1999), was voted ESPN Coach of the Decade (1999), and named National Coach of the Year (1994).
After his retirement from coaching, Osborne was elected to Congress in 2000 and served six years as a Republican from Nebraska's 3rd congressional district.
In 2007, Osborne became the athletic director for the University of Nebraska, establishing a mission based on five values: integrity, trust, respect, teamwork and loyalty. Widely known for his leadership, integrity, honor and compassion, Osborne has worked hard to build the TeamMates mentoring program which provides encouragement for kids to finish school and go to college.
