The Greenhouse which can be viewed from the outside, as well as the Science labs on the inside, has earned Brooks Hall the nickname of the “science building.” However, in addition to being the home of the labs for biology, chemistry, physics, and physical science, Brooks Hall also houses the lab used by the Criminal Justice department. Additionally, offices for not only Science but English and Math faculty are also located here. Its classrooms enjoy the same multipurpose usage. In all, it has about 12,000 square feet of space and is valued at nearly two million dollars.
Struggling with English or Math? The Instructional Support Lab (a fully equipped computing facility with internet access) is located in room 405, and provides tutorial assistance and placement testing for the entire student body, as well as CLEP testing for the general community. Beginning in the Fall of 2004 Brooks Hall will also be the home of the recently approved Computer Science Program.
This building was named for the late Linda Brooks, who came to Faulkner in 1980 as the Chair of the English Department and was promoted to Academic Dean in 1984. She served in this capacity until 1988 when she succumbed to cancer. Friends for Faulkner renovated the building after her passing and it was then dedicated to her memory and named the Linda Y. Brooks Hall by the university.
