WELCOME, OR WELCOME BACK!

The library staff is pleased to welcome all new and returning students!  There have been a few changes in the library over the summer (see below).  Be sure to check the revamped library website regularly, at:  /jsl/library.asp.  Our website has library hours, staff contacts, links to electronic resources, lists of our new library acquisitions, a schedule of our acclaimed “Databasics” workshops, links to our series of helpful research guides, and even a link to your Faulkner email account.   We are especially excited about our new, unique “Research Vortex.”  Get pulled into the Vortex by clicking on the “Electronic Databases & Research” link!

New students should take a look at our “website spotlight” on the front page of the library website.  It currently features a site that will help ease your introduction to the language of law.

CHANGE:  THE ONLY CONSTANT

 IN THE LIBRARY WORLD

Returning students will notice a few changes in the library.  On the first floor, we’ve created a new “Alabama and Regional States” section housed on the 5 ranges of shelving nearest the Circulation Desk.  There you’ll find most of our Alabama-related materials, as well as state statutes and other practice materials for our 4 contiguous states (Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee).

The second floor now has more room for seating.  We’ve removed some shelving in order to spread out the study tables, and will be adding a few “homey” touches like more plants and pictures.

To make finding materials easy, pick up a “Library Locator Guide” at the Circulation Desk or access it on the library website’s “publications” page.

HELP US HELP YOU

With a growing student body and limited library space, everyone needs to help in keeping things conducive for researching and studying.  We ask for your cooperation in keeping the second floor (particularly the rear area) as the designated “very quiet area.”  The atrium area on the first floor near the library’s entrance is an area where talking (in a low voice, of course) is permitted.  Please remember that there should be no cell phone conversations anywhere in the library.  (And, if you are looking for a quiet area to study, please don’t sit near the Library Director’s office!)

Because we currently have only 3 group study rooms, it is important for students to follow the policies and procedures governing the use of these rooms.  (For example, groups always have precedence over individuals, persons may not “claim” rooms by leaving their belonging, group time in a room may be limited.)  For the full rundown, including reservation information, see a library staff member or check the library website at:  /jsl/library/groupstudy.aspand

/jsl/library/policies.asp.

LIBRARY HOURS FOR FALL SEMESTER

Good news for those who spend a lot of their time studying in the library!  During Fall Semester we’ll continue to operate on the expanded hours that we began last year.  Even though there aren’t many students in the library on Friday and Saturday nights, we hope that the large incoming class will help justify our decision to remain open on those evenings.  Regular hours are:

Sunday, 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 11:00 pm

Friday, 7:30 am to 9:00 pm

Saturday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
