John J. Garman, professor of law, joined the faculty at Faulkner University Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in 2000. Garman taught at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee from 1992 through 1999, when he moved to France to pursue an LL.M. with distinction in European Union law from the Université de Droit, d'Economie et des Sciences d'Aix-Marseille. Professor Garman graduated cum laude with a B.A. from David Lipscomb University in 1988 and earned his J.D from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1991. Currently he teaches Constitutional Law, Comparative Constitutional Law, Employment Law, and Children's Rights. Professor Garman also coaches the law school's award-winning American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy team.
Professor Garman researches and writes in the area of comparative US/EU law.
An avid fan of music and the arts, Professor Garman volunteers for the drum and bugle corps youth activity and enjoys attending drum corps competitions throughout North America. In his spare time he performs on the upright bass fiddle for the Coosa River Broadcasters band and the Goat Hill String Band. Professor Garman is an amateur radio licensee and received a commendation from Alabama Gov. Bob Riley for assisting with emergency communications during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Professor Garman is also a licensed pilot.
Professor Garman is admitted to practice in the State of Tennessee and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, and maintained an active litigation practice before moving to Montgomery.
