Service Learning
Service focuses on spiritual development nurtured by experiential learning
through intentional curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular processes.
This development is reached by focusing on the development of expressed
spiritual formation through intentional curricular, co-curricular and
extra-curricular experiential learning processes.
What Service Learning can teach
Service in the SFP is designed to complete the spiritual formation circle by
providing avenues for the conveying of Christian knowledge -Intellect- and the
expression of Christian dispositions -Character- in real world settings. Service
in the SFP rests on the principles and practices of service-learning:
- Reflection to gain deeper understanding of self, spirituality, community,
civic responsibility, and professional discipline
- Engagement of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and dispositions.
Christian service will be a direct manifestation of the Service component of the
SFP and the maturity that comes from spiritual formation.
