physical education and sports management

The renewed interest in personal fitness as a critical facet of every person's life has placed added emphasis on the scientific base upon which the field of Physical Education is founded. Its relationship to anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and physics has taken on critical importance in the struggle to ensure people of varying physical capabilities the longest, healthiest, most active life possible. Physical educators supply the link of application between the physical and biological scientists, and society.

The Department of Physical Education and Sports Management is designed to meet a variety of needs. To the general student population it endeavors to create an informed population with respect to the many facets of fitness, and to develop expertise in at least two areas of activity. For those wishing to work in the area of fitness the department offers three separate tracts. The first is the traditional teaching certification. Graduates of the program are certified to teach in the state of Alabama and in states with reciprocal agreements with Alabama. The second degree program is a combination of Physical Education and Business classes to prepare students for non-teaching jobs in the sport/fitness world. Lastly, a Liberal Arts degree in Physical Education allows students more electives in creating a degree program catered more to graduate school preparation. Each degree is based on a strong Liberal Arts core (including regular classes in the Bible) that prepares the student for a rounded balanced life.
