A welcome From The Department Chairman
Dr. Matt Roberson
Greetings from
Our Philosophy
The first image we have of God in Genesis is that of God as creator. When he created man in His own image, then, He created us to be creators as well. The product of God’s creation is, of course, creation itself; the products of human creation we call “art,” a term that encompasses a variety of creative activities, including the performing arts—music, dance, and theatre. We believe that God implanted in humanity a yearning to create and that fulfilling this need is vital for a healthy life. The arts should thus be a central component in education at all levels, rather than being relegated to the periphery.
Unfortunately, as with any endeavor, humans often use the arts to convey unbiblical ideologies. We, however, above all else, want to cultivate Christian artists not only by providing a caring, Christian environment, but also by encouraging students to develop a Christian worldview in general and a Christian philosophy of the arts in particular.

We offer degrees in music, theatre, and music theatre. Our Dinner Theatre stages seven shows each season (at least three of which are musicals) with twenty performances of each show. This provides our students with an unusually large number of performance opportunities in a semi-professional environment. In addition to the success of mounting two consecutive sold-out seasons in the Dinner Theatre, our students swept the statewide KCACTF competition, winning Best Director, Best Playwright, and Best Actor. Our music area is growing rapidly. The Chorus recently performed a concert featuring the music of Mozart and Handel with members of the Montgomery Symphony, and they were accepted into the 2007 ACDA festival in
