Curriculum Lab

The Curriculum Lab, located in Johnson Hall, room 506, exists primarily to serve the faculty and students in the Teacher Education Program at Faulkner University. The Curriculum Lab is a resource center with the following types of holdings:
- Representative textbooks in each subject area and grade level for which Faulkner University has an approved program;
- Books on methods, activities, resources, and foundations of education;
- Courses of study for the State of Alabama;
- Curriculum Files;
- Audio-Visuals and computer software;
- Audio-Visual equipment;
- Kits, models, instruments and globes;
- Equipment and supplies for constructing teaching aids;
- The Education Computer Center - A state of the art computer lab featuring Pentium III PCs, digital cameras, video projection systems, color & black laser printers, a document camera and an optical scanner; and
- Library of software and computer materials.
The Curriculum Lab is designed to be a relaxed, informal working center where users can do cut-outs for a bulletin board, surf the net, check e-mails, prepare electronic presentations, type a report, chat with a friend, browse through books, clip art collections or periodicals, learn to use equipment & educational software, select materials for a teaching unit, and find a resource person to help them locate what they need. The Curriculum Lab is not a library. A little noisier and less formal, it is more of a working room than it is a reading room. Computers in the Curriculum Lab are reserved for use by Education Majors only.
The following policies govern the use of the Curriculum Lab:
- Instructional materials marked for check-out may be checked out for three days. Other materials such as reference books, periodicals, and computer software are for use in the Curriculum Lab only. Equipment may be checked out by education students for use on the campus only and for a clearly specified time. Students are advised to reserve equipment several days in advance;
- Materials used are not to be reshelved by the user but placed in a designated area;
- An Education faculty member must open the lab and supervise it for any use other than the regularly scheduled hours. Lab hours are posted at the beginning of each semester and are determined on the basis of the education courses offered;
- School dress and behavior codes apply in the Curriculum Lab;
- Food is not allowed in the lab and drinks are prohibited;
- Education faculty have unlimited use of all of the available resources in the lab, but are requested to check them out. They are advised to reserve equipment several days in advance;
- All users are responsible for cleaning their workstations;
- Requests to reserve the lab for a meeting or class should be handled through the Department of Education secretary
