Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

The department of Computer Science offers a BS degree program in Computer Science. The BS degree program is CS is broad, rigorous, and structured in a way that supports in-depth and systematic study of algorithmic processes – their theory, analysis, design, efficiency, implementation and application. It trains students to think creatively and logically, to solve large and complex problems, and to communicate with clarity and precision. It sets the stage for graduate study or immediate employment in a wide variety of careers in science, business, and industry.

The computer industry is one of the fasting growing segments of the economy the world over, with opportunities in computer science at their highest point in recent years. The program’s coverage of modern operating systems, database management systems, theory of computation, software engineering, and programming languages such as C, C++, JAVA, and Visual BASIC positions the undergraduate for success in the market place: commerce, industry and government research laboratories. The program also prepares the student for graduate work in areas such as database systems, software engineering, theoretical computer science, programming languages, and algorithms.

Recipients of the BS degree will, in addition, have substantial depth and breadth in mathematics and physics. The mix of courses (e.g., computer science, math, physics, Bible, social science) provides students with a broad educational base and helps fashion their abilities to better engage in critical thinking and problem solving.
